Madrid day 2 - Starbucks, Maceiras & Plaza Mayor

Since we didn't really have any fixed plan during our travel to Madrid the other day, so we just went with the flow. More when most of the places that we could visit were just walking distance away from the hotel.

Dunno how many times in a day we passed by this road..

..and this one too.

Starbucks
I've never been into Starbucks (jangan gelak ye Cahya) in my whole entire life (jakun kan? haha!) so he said for us to have breakfast there. Late breakfast. I had carrot cake + orange juice + hmm.. I don't remember the name but it was like hot white choc with cream on top. Verdict? Superb! ;). My first Starbucks treat.. with 2 more to come! :D

After that we just wondered around in Plaza Sol.

We found this secret path that leads to..

..this ancient chocolateria. It's a chocolate cafe, opened since 1854 if I'm not mistaken. Once we set eyes on that cafe, we knew that we had to be back there.. for breakfast. And we did! More on that in my next entry :D

Maceiras

Had lunch at this rustic Galicia restaurant. It is a medium small restaurant but packed with lots of small table and chairs. Moveable, mind you. One part when we were eating, the waitress came over and ask if we would be kind to move our table and chairs a bit to the left so that this group of 6 people can fit in at the table next to us. Muaha!

Despite the extremely tight space, the food and the service were spectacular!

First thing that they serve as soon as you sat, is bread. Well, it's a typical thing here. Loved the bread, they tasted as good as the Portuguese ones.

The unique menu. And they don't accept credit cards! Such a luxury decision on the restaurant part when it's known that everywhere in the whole Spain, all business are not doing so good. But seeing how people were lining up outside the restaurant, waiting for empty table.. I guess they were doing great.

We ordered seafood rice (which was gonna take 25 minutes) so while waiting we ordered these. Fried calamari rings. Yummeh!

And we ordered these too, octopus with potato.

Yummeh! I must have been so hungry because all my food photos are shaky :D

The seafood rice came in a pot! That pot could easily feed 3 to 4 people, but the menu said it was for 2 persons. Haha! Anyway, it was... yummeeeeeeh! We ended up not being able to finish it (and trust me, I ate a lot!). We skipped desserts and he skipped his coffee. Too full.

Total paid for lunch, including huge bottle of water = 27++eu. Cheap and delicious!

Plaza Mayor
Plaza Mayor is a central plaza in Madrid, with rectangular shape and is surrounded by 3 three-story residential buildings having 237 breathtaking balconies facing the Plaza.

The locals said that it is one of the places that you should not miss when you visit Madrid.

One of the entrances to the plaza.

This man was painting on a piece of mirror.. with his fingers! Amazing!

Plaza Mayor is filled with small stalls selling you-name-it-they-have-it, surrounding the plaza. Majority of the stalls sell old coins from all over the world. A must go place for coins collectors. If you're not a collector, the view itself is enough reason.

I started taking more photos on day 2. He said to put all my stuff in his backpack and I was left with just my camera.. hanging round my neck :D

  4. The city is so clean and tidy. Kalau tak sejuk, kira boleh sunbathing le celah-celah bangunan tu.

Gedabak sungguh periuk dia. Mesti sedap makanan kat ancient resto tu, kalau tidak takkan boleh bertahan sebegitu lama.

Starbucks! Putera bongsuku itu makan minum disitu sejak umur 5 tahun. Dolu-dolu sekolah di international school, skrg sekolah kebangsaan. Nasib baik, skrg dah sedar diri anak Melayu. huhuhu

  6. Cahya,
Dulu takat lalu je ye? Sekarang kalo sebut Starbucks, mesti dah tak lalu kan?

    Old buildings memang mengasyikkan. :)

Octupos? Hmm.. rasanye macam sotong biasa tu (calamar) tapi way much more softer and the texture is like cuttlefish (sotong katak) tu, tebal and padat gitu. Kantang tu lak diorang rebus extra lembut and then drizzle dengan sweet paprika + olive oil (on octopus too).

So camno, agak2 Cahya suka tak?

    MM,
Alahai.. kalo MM ada time makan seafood rice tu, mesti kita berdua buleh habiskan sebab masing2 kasi moral support gitu. Haha!

Dah tulis and tunjuk gambor pasal chocolateria tu :D

    Cik Som,
Geng MM la ni ye? Dah ada pasal chocolateria tu :D

Plaza Som still dalam construction la. Workers slow sikit, prob net katanye. Apa kaitan pon tak tau. Hehe!

    Ahkak,
Ha ah, bersih. Beza amat dengan pekan ni.

Uiks!
